Making a felt puppet was the ideal workshop. It was our first attempt to create a puppet with personality and character. It was the highest output level of the day, and I even started putting felt on top of the rough puppet to give it some value. Because I was in a rush, I didn’t spend much time cutting out particular pieces of cloth and adhering them to the sections of my puppet; in fact and cut small portions and stuck them as I went around the surface of the puppet.
I chose vivid orange and brown for the costume and blue for the accessory and limb coverings. The contrasting yet complementary colours of orange and blue added weight to the character, and I had no idea how the puppet would turn out as a personality until the end of the process.
Of course, I was close to finishing the puppet at this point, but was I? We’ll find out the outcome of this three-day puppet workshop soon enough, but until then, let the fluffy kitten head remain a mystery.
